FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Chandler House Press Publishes Inspirational Memoir about Raising Bald Eagles
January 13, 2014 (Worcester, MA)—Dianne Benson Davis lived alone for four months raising eight baby eagles in the secluded wilderness of the vast Quabbin Reservoir reservation. She writes about this unique life-altering experience in her new book, Eagle One: Raising Bald Eagles, A Wildlife Memoir ($24.95).
Eagle One, published by Chandler House Press, is an intimate account of a woman’s life devoted to family, education, wildlife, and the environment. It is a captivating record of her time caring for the baby eagles, based on the letters and journals she kept during that period. Davis was part of an ambitious and successful effort to reintroduce the endangered bald eagle to the skies over New England.
The book also is a personal memoir for Davis: her courageous story of perseverance and struggle as a single mother, the joys of learning and teaching about wildlife, and of finding happiness and fulfillment through her work and supportive family.
“Reading this book is inspiring,” says Deb Cary, Director, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Central Sanctuaries. “Dianne describes her experiences in ways that will encourage you to think more about your own encounters with nature; her writing and reflections are genuine and heartfelt.”
Eagle One also examines Davis’ nearly 20-year relationship with a red-tailed hawk, caring for a baby polar bear, tagging loggerhead sea turtles, and working with countless animals at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine Wildlife Clinic at Tufts University and the EcoTarium in her role as a naturalist, conservationist, educator, zookeeper, and veterinary technician.
Davis, a Grafton resident, is a natural history guide for the Massachusetts Audubon Society leading walks and teaching children and adults about the outdoor world surrounding them.
